Hi! i’m Nato. I’m originally from Porto Alegre in Brazil. I have made New Zealand my home since 2012, and have been tattooing since 2009.
I have always been in love with art, I was always the kid with ink on my hands and doodle covered school books. During my teenage years I also had a strong desire to study Economics for political reasons. When I passed the test to get into a fantastic university my father rewarded me with the money for my first tattoo which I had been wanting for a long time. The artist who did my first tattoo would later be the person to teach me how. His name is Jeferson Schneider from Style Tattoo in Esteio. My apprenticeship was unconventional and very fast, I started by working the reception desk and asking as many questions as I could think of, as soon as he noticed my interest and saw some potential in me he offered me a permanent position and I threw myself straight in. Once I started tattooing I fell in love and I knew this is what I was meant to do, economics was not for me. Since then my life has been entirely dedicated to tattooing and art. I hope I continue to live and breathe it every day.
In 2012 I had an exciting opportunity to follow my sister to New Zealand. I came here on a 3 month work visa and was so lucky that the amazing team at Skinks Tattoos in Hamilton welcomed me in. I was also lucky enough to be able to work with the guys at Flax Roots for 3 months as well. Learning a new language and adjusting to a new environment was daunting and difficult for me but I want to thank these teams for making it easier for me and teaching me a lot.
I was working at Skinks for 4 years and during this time I was developing my own style. I have always loved Dotwork & Geometric tattoos, but I also started doing more and more realism. In late 2017 I had the massive opportunity of joining the crew at Ship Shape tattoo in Auckland, and my mission is the same; continue learning and evolving. It’s been such a pleasure to be surrounded by the amazing team at Ship Shape and I feel inspired every day.
For me nothing is more important than happiness. That’s the reason I love tattooing so much because it allows me to have a creative outlet, be happy and make my clients happy. I want to thank my clients for the creative freedom they give me and to my future clients I look forward to creating some rad projects with you!
